Just a short newsletter this issue, as everyone is still busy with
the Holiday Season! I would like to take this opportunity to wish
each and every one of you a Happy New Year!

This is the time to review past practises for effectivness and to
plan ahead to increase business for the coming year. That is the
subject of the new Instant Survey at http://www/results-net.com where
we ask the question "REALTORS, what activity is your first priority
to help increase your business in the coming year?"

One thing many agents will be considering is how to upgrade their
results from maintaining an internet presence. A couple of recent
polls confirm again what some of us have known for a while, and
others have been resisting for a long time.

A poll conducted by AOL and Roper Starch confirmed that most people
regard the internet as a communications medium first and 87 percent
say they regularly go online to keep in touch with friends and
family. 80 percent had recommended to friends and family that they
get online. 71 percent of those surveyed said they had used the
Internet to research purchases.

Many agents still think of the internet as an advertising
medium and treat their web site as an electronic personal brochure!
Interactivity is minimal, and email is viewed as something no serious
prospect would ever want to use. Prospects will pass them by to find
what they are looking for elsewhere. No wonder they lose interest in
their web site after a month or two! Maybe they still think that
internet users are kids fooling around, but the study also confirmed
that 65 percent of respondents were aged 35 and over - prime house
buying age in most markets!

Another study confirmed the incredible growth rate of this group of
prospects. The number of people with Internet access will quadruple
by 2005, according to the research.

The report predicts that by 2005, there will be 206 million
dial-up connections and 17.5 million permanent connections worldwide.

The study affirms that the provision of value added service is the key to
a successful online business strategy. This is something that we

Service is the key! Most visitors to your web site are there for the
information, and want to be serviced in a timely manner by email. If
you will not do it, they will find someone who will. There are many
more "non responders" out there than there are agents who are
prepared to service the people their web site attracts, so the
opportunity is huge for those in the know!

I would be interested in knowing of your experiences with Page Mail -
where you are paged through your regular pager when someone sends you
an email. I had installed it on my site a couple of years ago, and
found that no one except other agents used it - so I removed it. The
visitors still prefered to be responded to by email, and did not
really want to get a telephone call back.

Some agents "cheat" by hiding the Pager as a normal e mail account so
the visitor is not aware the agent is being paged. That would work
well in allowing the agent to respond quickly, but I suspect an email
response is probably what the visitor would prefer in this case - not
necesarily a phone call.

I have had marginally better results with an ICQ Pager panel on my
site, but it is still a struggle to justify it's existance at times.
The ICQ Pager Panel allows visitors to send me messages directly when
I am online. I also have a back up copy sent to my regular email
account to ensure I never miss a message.

well as dozens of targets to make navigation a breeze. As the
directories fill up, they will be divided up into several more pages
